Violence

Violence begets violence

The sad homes of our students

Backpacks leaning on fence posts

Of vacant lots

Taught not the power of persuasion

Using fists instead of words

Heroes are criminals

Adults are enemies

Leaving behind school

Walk away, pants slouching

Turn your backs on those here to help you

Push them away

They will never understand you

The rage in an empty car

The way a brick feels in your hand

Ready to break glass

Standing there shivering

Wondering if this is being a man.
